Workshops, talks and retreats
Madeleine enjoys sharing her love of icons and an understanding of their symbolism and theology and, in particular, to share her insights into the Franciscan icon of the crucifixion, the San Damiano Cross.
Workshop and event options include:
__
Short talks (1-2 hours)
Reviews and feedback:
‘Thank you so much for your wonderful talk; truly blessed to have you with us last night.’ - Collette Clarke, Association of Iconographers of Ireland. Ards Priory.
‘Thank you so much for last night’s talk- we found it completely fascinating. Philip who has listened to more lectures than he can count, remarked that it was so rare to be actually disappointed when a speaker came to the end of their slides. It was a lovely evening altogether – such a pleasure.’ - Helen Nicholl, QUB Philhellenic Society, Queen’s University Belfast
__
½ day illustrated talks, workshops and Q&A sessions
Reviews and feedback:
‘Thank you. We had excellent feedback from your half day workshop on ‘Praying with Icons.’ Our thinking is we should have you for longer!’ - Paula Pearce OSF, Franciscan Centre, Canterbury
__
Day Workshops
- A whole day allows for the inclusion of two sessions where small groups can discuss key topics together and feed back their input for discussion with the larger group.
Reviews and feedback:
‘Thank you for sharing your insights into The San Damiano Cross. It was inspirational.’ - Gina, CSF Sisters Meeting, Swanwick.
‘ I found your presentation on classical orthodox iconography and the application of that to the San Damiano cross to be fascinating, and it continues to assist me when I look at that icon and at other icons in the orthodox tradition' - Sr Maureen, CSF. After presentation at Poor Clare Monastery, Arkley
__
Weekend Retreats
- A week-end retreat allows for a fuller exploration of the theology and symbolism of iconography, private prayer time with a preferred icon, group work, detailed work on selected icons and an introduction to the method of painting icons with an opportunity to use egg tempera on a gessoed board. (depending on the size of the group)
Reviews and feedback:
‘An excellent and unique week-end.’ - John, Minster Abbey, Thanet.
‘I am delighted with how well the retreat went and thank you again for the work you put in’. - Fr Gabriel, Douai Abbey, Woolhampton.
Madeleine is happy to prepare a programme to suit individual requirements and to team up with other speakers. Please feel free to get in contact to discuss your ideas and interests.
A selection of typical ‘flyers’ follows, which give an idea as to the content of different types of sessions.
